This elegant rarity is a domain full of peace, privacy, natural beauty and centuries of history. Buitenplaats Vechtoever is a national monument with NSW status and is an exceptional whole with a park garden in English landscape style. Over 2.5 hectares with a varied timber stand, ponds, bridges, orchard and a jetty. Everything is perfectly coordinated here.
This beautiful country estate is located in the Vecht area on the Vecht, along the edge of Vechtdorp Maarsen on the Diependaalsedijk and only 6 kilometers from Utrecht.
Main house
On the ground floor there are several rooms including a dining room, various work rooms and a serving kitchen. The cozy living/dining kitchen and various other spaces, including a provision and wine cellar, are located in the basement. The basement has its own access directly on the Vecht. This makes the space ideal for a home office, a separate apartment for lodging or a relaxation room.
Tea cupola
Country estate Vechtoever has one of the most beautiful domes in the Vecht region, which dates from around 1760. Built in classicist style, it has the shape of a garden temple rather than a tea dome. The tea cupola originally had a balustrade roof that was destroyed by fire in 1920. The current roof is supported by six columns. In addition, the dome is decorated with sculpted masks that successively represent: spring, summer, autumn, winter, the sun and the moon. From the tea dome you have a beautiful view over the Vecht and the flower garden. The dome was completely restored in 1987-1988.
Garden
The fantastic, beautiful park garden around the country house is a true paradise. Around 1800 the English landscape style was introduced in the Netherlands and the garden was adapted in accordance with this style.
History
The country estate was then called “Den Oever” and was renamed Vechtoever in 1751. Towards the end of the 18th century, Vechtoever belongs to Gerardus Lambertus Dommer. He would like to build a chapel at the house and even asks permission from the Pope. In 1797 he received permission and had the chapel built. The two hearts and four crowns of thorns in the room to the right of the entrance suggest that the chapel was located there.
